A message from the CCCNP… .
Black Lives Matter.
Racial injustice cannot be tolerated.
Racism is a systemic crisis that weighs heavily on the physical, mental and social well-being of people of color. Events of the past few weeks have exposed just how devastating and destructive systemic racism is on the very principles that influence health in our country.
The Comprehensive Cancer Control National Partnership (CCCNP) mourns the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and countless others who have been victims of racially motivated violence.
We stand together against discrimination. We stand together for equal justice, inclusion and health equity.
Conquering racism and conquering cancer have one thing in common: A need for collective action. That’s where you come in.
As CCC coalitions, organizations and individuals you have stepped up to take collective action against cancer time and time again. In March 2020, you turned your focus to COVID-19 and are continuing to find new ways to address cancer care in the face of the pandemic that has disproportionately impacted communities of color. Addressing health disparities is certainly not new to us, but, if nothing else, we have learned through both these pandemics (COVID-19 and systemic racism) that we must do more. We must do it differently, and we must do it now. And, just as you’ve historically and consistently stepped to the plate for any other issue that affects the health of our communities, we know that you can also adjust your priorities to increase our collective efforts to eliminate social injustices and institutional racism. We will work with you. While we may not have all the answers, we commit to make addressing the unequal burden of cancer caused by this systemic crisis a priority for the CCCNP.
We stand with you; we stand for you and together we can take collective action against systemic racism. We must.
-The Comprehensive Cancer Control National Partnership
Towards that end, the CCCNP would like to provide you with opportunities and tools to help you in your work. We have launched a new quarterly Zoom series and curated a list of resources here.
